Media matters.
I was recently interviewed by a producer for ABC for what I thought was going to be a discussion about my newly released book, "Quantum of Justice". However, what I quickly came to learn was that the interviewer had not read my book and seemingly had his own agenda as to where he wanted the interview to go.
There was never a question as to the name of my book or what it was about. His line of questioning was pointed and adversarial in nature, or at least it certainly felt that way to me. He interrupted me a handful of times when the answers seemed to deviate from the truth that he was looking to project. The key point there is a truth that he was looking to project, rather than actually looking for truth. It seemed to me he wasn't open to learning.
At one point he says "I don't believe you." Well, the truth exists whether you believe me or not. Perhaps, if he were to have read even a few pages of my book he might have been able to come up with a more insightful matter of questioning. It seemed his lack of attention to what is truly happening in the world and to the cause we were discussing might be due to his narrow line of questioning. As a reporter for so many years, perhaps he is asking the wrong questions if he can't see the truth right in front of him. He seemed to be looking for a different message, but not the truth.
I have no idea if this interview will see the light of day. I have no idea if he will edit it to a point that suits the narrative that he was certainly looking to deliver. Either way, I wanted to post it here.
At one point he said "...then you are not a good attorney." ...Uh..but, I'm not an attorney at all. I have spent most of my life in the world of real estate and not law. I was thrown into the lion's den of the world of law when Wells Fargo Bank began foreclosing on me while I was CURRENT on my mortgage, and I was left to litigate the case myself. That is the point of my book. But he wouldn't know that because he didn't read it.
At one point he asked me "So, if they auctioned off your home why did you still maintain the lawsuit against the bank?" I thought, really? Unbelievable. I responded, "They stole my house!" I left that to sit and I waited for his response. He simply thought that the screen froze because I didn't move. "uh, are you there?" Uh, yes, I am. Are you?
I was literally aghast at the sophomoric approach to his line of questions and responses. But, it seemed that he came to the interview with a pre-conceived vision of what he wanted the outcome to be. This pre-conceived outcome was based on his narrow and rather uneducated view, of what he thought was quite the opposite, as he was coming from being an experienced reporter working on a topic he thought that he had a wide knowledge base on due to his spending the past 10 years interviewing subjects on the economic collapse of 2008. He obviously has a bit more to learn on this subject for sure and it seemed he wasn't going to try. At least not while he was interviewing me. Too bad. As most people get their information from the likes of the unprofessional style of media reporting that he exposed.
